Augustana encourages members to include the congregation in their estate plans.
Members frequently speak of the importance of Augustana in their lives, of how much they value the diversity and meaningful worship they find at Augustana and how they feel welcomed and cared for by the faith community that is Augustana. It makes sense, then, to think about ways to help ensure that Augustana will be here to serve others in the same way far into the future beyond our lifetimes.
Members who have included Augustana in their estate plans and are willing to have this publicly acknowledged are included in the St. Eric/k’s Society. St. Eric/k’s was Augustana’s original name. Members of this society are honored on occasion with a meal together or in other ways.
A handful of members who have died recently have left gifts to Augustana in their wills, and they are acknowledged and honored in various ways.
Opportunities are provided on occasion to let members know about planned giving. There is a brochure that is available from the church office. Also, the ELCA Metropolitan Washington, D.C., Synod has a staff person who can assist with planned giving – Alice Benson, who has information packets that discuss various planned-giving options, including wills, IRAs, and insurance policies. If you would like more information about planned giving, please contact the church office for a packet.
Augustana is grateful to all St. Eric/k’s members. More are welcome to join this group.
