Augustana is an active part of a vibrant, growing community, and we have officially declared that we want to use our building “as a center at the crossroad that advances the social, physical, educational, economic and spiritual well-being of diverse families, individuals and communities.” The church is committed to sharing its space “through leases and rental agreements with groups, organizations, families, performers, and celebrations that share Augustana’s mission and values and are prepared to financially contribute to sustain the space and its use.”
A busy schedule of occasional events has included charter school graduation ceremonies; Capitol Roundup parties and talent shows; concerts and recitals; birthday parties, condominium residence association meetings; summer programs; classes in computer learning, story telling, reading; family celebrations; and other meetings and conferences.
All of our spaces are wheelchair accessible.
Groups and organizations come to use space as tenants that lease space for exclusive or shared use or as renters that use facilities through weekly or event related agreements.
Our current regular tenants include:
Semillitas Early Learning Center – Founded in 2009, a group of experienced early childhood educators came together to plant the ‘little seeds’ with the vision of building a center, modeled after successful programs, where teachers worked hand in hand with administration to ensure quality infant and toddler care.
Lemontree Playgroup – Formed to meet the growing needs of families in Logan Circle, U Street, Dupont Circle, Adams Morgan and surrounding neighborhoods. Lemon Tree strives to provide a welcoming, safe and creative environment for children ages 6 months to 4 years (accompanied by parent or caregiver) to socialize and grow through a loosely structured program of free play, circle time, crafts and group snack time.
Additional weekly activities include meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous and a Capoeira class.
The Crossroad Center has a variety of spaces available for rentals.
Social Hall
With access to a kitchen for set-up, our social hall is perfect for parties and receptions. It is 1,800 square feet and features a bank of sliding glass doors that open out onto a patio. The space is large enough to seat 100 people for a dinner or fewer with space for a dance floor. It has a variety of lighting (wall sconces, overhead track) that can be set to different moods.
Break-out rooms
For groups looking for workshop space, there are three additional break-out rooms for small groups.
Community room
Our Community Room, which is undergoing a face-lift at the moment, is great for small groups. This room is roughly 540 square feet and can easily fit up to 35 people in a presentation style set-up.
