News and Announcements

The Online Augustanan
March 2018

Newcomer & Baptismal Class: are you interested in learning more about what it means to be a disciple of Christ in the Lutheran tradition? Would you like to be baptized or have your child baptized? Are you considering joining Augustana as a member? Come explore these questions and more in our Newcomer & Baptismal class series on Sundays at 12:30 pm: March 11 and 18. Those who choose to be baptized or affirm their baptism in membership will have the opportunity to do so at the Easter Vigil.

Join the Lydians in sacrificial giving and prayer: you are invited to set aside a daily donation during Lent along with a prayer. Suggestions: $1 a day, but the amount is up to you; “Bless this gift that it might provide legal aid, comfort, justice and mercy for members of La Comunidad de Santa Maria.” On Palm Sunday, we will all put our offerings together that they may be blessed and given to the Santa Maria community to provide funding for immigration legal aid.

DC Books to Prisoners: Throughout the month of March, you are invited to bring in your gently used paperback books to donate to DC Books to Prisoners. The Social Ministry team has placed baskets in the narthex (entry into the sanctuary) and in the social hall to receive your books. You are also welcome to donate postage stamps.

The Augustana Book Group will meet Sunday, March 18, at 12:30 pm in the library to discuss The Alice Network by Kate Quinn, a historical novel of two side-by-side stories: that of the real-life Alice Network, a group of female spies operating in France during World War I, and that of an American college student looking for her cousin who went missing after World War II. All are welcome to join the discussion.

Looking ahead:
2018 is our 100th anniversary year as a congregation!
